Firestorm in Centaurus A

The Hubble Space Telescope is one of the most amazing tools that astronomers have ever had. I don't think to many people would argue that. But in addition to that, it provides the world with some of the most amazing pictures of our Universe. It shows us a beautiful Universe that would be an abstract artist's dream. And just yesterday, another hit was released to the public: (you are gonna want to click to see the larger image.)

This is a nearby galaxy named Centaurus A, or well, a portion of Cen A. The image shows a close up of the dark and murky dust of Cen A lite up by the fires of starbirth happening throughout the galaxy. It is an interesting and dynamic place to read about.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to tell you all about it, I am literally on my way out the door for the weekend. I'll be checking comments either late Sunday or on Monday. To read more about this image and Cen A, I suggest checking out Bad Astronomy's article, or Space.com's, and for really huge and detailed version, check out HubbleSite.

I think it could be argued that the Hubble telescope should be considered one of the seven wonders of the modern world. It has unlocked so many secrets of the cosmos in its lifespan that we were basically blind before having it. And it's what we're going to have to settle for until we come up with warp travel.

Looks like the saturation was upped by a few levels in that pic. Also the lightness and contrast were bumped up to make the stars stand out more. I can tell because some of the dark areas are too dark compared to the rest of the pic.

Beautiful. It's hard to describe the emotions that pictures of the universe conjour up.

Is it bad that that image made me feel a little queasy? I know to some it is beautiful and strange and wondrous. Too me it is intimidating and unnerving. I can see so many faces in it, which my mind then turns in to screaming souls.
Astronomy should not be so horrendous. :D
Enjoy your weekend.

It doesn't even look real. It looks amazing though. Like a painting.

who knows? maybe a new race will be born in that galaxy who is super intelligent and hyper evolves. Maybe they will require more space to live and they will enslave the human race and take over to mine our resources......
