No caturday today, because of the April Fools post. But, I found a short little video on the James Webb Space Telescope:
The video talks about some differences between the JWST and Hubble, what JWST will be looking for, and neat information. Besides, when you think NASA Astrophysicists, you rarely think of someone like Dr. Amber Straughn, who does a great job in this video.

Interesting video!
I have a couple of questions and a request if I could be so bold. My first question is what delivery method are we planning to use to put this into orbit around our moon now that the shuttle has been retired? And my second question concerns its name. Is this named after the Democratic Senator from Virginia? I know that he has also been the Secretary of the Navy and an Undersecretary of Defense, is there some astronomical achievement he has that I am not aware of?
And my request involves Dr. Amber Straughn herself. Have her brought to my chambers this evening, and see to it that she is bathed...
Ha, I wish for the good Dr.
But yeah, different James Webb. The guy who telescope is named after now is being called James E. Webb because of the Senator. James E. Webb was the second administrator of NASA, having served under Kennedy and Johnson, was responsible for overseeing the first manned launches.
As for the telescope, I had to look up its specific delivery method. Lots of things are put into space without the shuttles. Regular rockets are used all the time for various satellites. And because this telescope is going to be out beyond the Moon, the shuttle wouldn't be a good option anyways. Right now it appears that they are deciding on using an Ariane 5 rocket, which are manufactured by the European Space Agency.
Beautiful blog!
We invite you to follow us!
Greetings from Greece!
thats awesome! thanks. i cant wait till we are able to bend light.
Very cool. I'm glad to see that our technology is being upgraded. Not that the Hubble is bad or anything...but I look forward to seeing that we will learn.
Hahaha, that's enough April Fools hahahah!
I can't wait to see what pictures this will give us. When will it be launched?
It's scheduled for 2014
Reminds me of that 8 year old astrophysicist lol.
we should be getting some amazing images from this. :D
very nice vid ;)
great video
pretty interesting stuff.
Interesting video, keep up the good work :)
Got to hear they're replacing Hubble
2014 can't come soon enough! Great video.
Makes me want to go to space!!
interesting
She seems like a brilliant lady. A little nervous perhaps, but probably a stellar co-worker. I wish I were than calliber of thinker...
It's so awesome that NASA is continuing space pioneering! I can't wait to read more of their findings.
Sounds awesome. They say the webb telescope will be able to detect the composition of atmospheres from light years away?
thanks for the vid. very interesting.
wouw really interesting!
Agree wtih BeefyWellington, great for the NASA.
I'm waiting for the day when all of this stuff can think for itself... Kind of like skynet, but literally in the sky. ;)
That's pretty dope. It would pretty cool to see a star being born.
Pretty cool seeing that tube getting smashed.
No kitties? : [
Great video, let's see if they succeed.
Aw, but I love cats. :(
Wow, so cool, the images and discoveries made with hubble were ground breaking I can't imagine what the JWST will do for us.
Very enlightening.
Your work on this blog is great! keep it up!
Good video, I appreciate the insight. Plus, you're right - not exactly what I would think of when I think of astrophysicists!
Pretty cool seeing that tube getting smashed.
there is no safe place on the internet :(
Cool video, very interesting
Whoa! Cool!
Aw how could you skip caturday! Anyway, this is really neat. Following and supporting!
